General questions

How long will it take to see results?

The amount of rain or water is an important factor to consider. If there has been a good watering following the hydro-seeding, the results should be noticeable 1 to 2 weeks following the application and the first cut can be made in the 3rd or 4th week. Otherwise, where there has been a lack of watering, the mulch will dry out and the seed will not grow. IT IS THEREFORE ESSENTIAL TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR WATERING AND MAINTENANCE FOR A GUARANTEED RESULT.

How to choose a good topsoil for sowing?

It is very important for Hydrosol before any hydraulic seeding to check the origin of the topsoil which often has surprises in store for us once the seeding has been applied. If we have any doubts about the quality of the soil or if you do not know where it comes from following the installation of the landscape contractor, Hydrosol will take care of analyzing your soil in order to be able to properly balance our seedlings with the features of the land at the site. These elements are essential for you to be eligible for the Hydrosol Guarantee.

This is why it is crucial to confirm with your soil supplier or the landscaper that this soil meets a minimum standard in order to avoid disasters during growth.

For all other technical problems or questions concerning topsoil, Hydrosol will advise you on your procedures and your projects.

How should I prepare my land for hydroseeding?

Soil preparation is an important step in the process. All traces of existing lawn must be removed as well as the weeds present. If there is excessive vegetation in the lawn area, a herbicide can be sprayed to kill unwanted weeds.

It is then necessary to put a minimum of 4 to 6 inches of grassing soil (Top-Soil). The thickness of soil applied is in fact the space to which the lawn will have access to take root. The more, the better! Scrape the surface so as to obtain a compact and smooth soil in order to eliminate any debris that may be found there. After which, hydro-seeding can be applied and thus give you exemplary results.

How does hydroseeding work?

Hydroseeding is characterized by being a very simple process. Water, seeds, fertilizers and a protective layer based on mulch (100% wood fiber) are mixed. This mixture is then applied to the surface to be covered. The application technique used is watering. Please note that this is a 100% organic product and no chemicals are used in the blending of the compound.

weed control

Do not use weed control on your new lawn. Grass that is still young can react severely to chemicals and may even die. All soils contain weeds that will grow once the lawn is mature. Also, weeds cannot survive when the root system is not fully formed. Fertilization can play an important role in controlling weeds. Ask your nearest expert for recommended products to kill weeds and keep your lawn healthy. Do not use any herbicide to control weeds on your new lawn for the first 60 days.

How should I prepare my land for hydroseeding?

HYDRO-SEEDING TRADITIONAL SEED

  • The lawn grows after only 3 to 5 days
  • Thanks to the integration of an organic fixative, we control erosion and ensure uniform growth
  • The mixture does not contain weeds in its components
  • The protective layer of mulch will decompose in the soil and enrich it with nitrogen, among other things.

    THE TRADITIONAL SEED
  • The lawn grows after 15 days
  • The risk of showers can lead to a complete washout of the seeds
  • Weeds lead to the presence of parasites in the vegetation
  • No organic agent guarantees the quality and continuity of young plants

Will (green) mulch stain my sidewalks and driveways in my house?

NO, the green mulch slime will not soil any of the above areas. If the mulch comes in contact with any of the mentioned surfaces, a simple sprinkling or the first rain will wash away all traces of green mulch.

Is mulch dangerous for pets?

NO, all components of the hydroseeding process are natural and safe for pets and anyone who comes near them. On the other hand, for the same reasons as with young children, it is preferable not to let the animals walk or play on the newly hydro-seeded ground.

The disadvantages of peat

Price is the most important factor to consider. Also, although you have a lawn immediately after laying with peat, full rooting takes over a year. The lawn is therefore more susceptible to disease and drought.

Peat requires longer watering than hydroseeding in order to achieve a full, lush lawn. Sod installation requires a number of out-of-pocket costs (peatland maintenance, haulage, irrigation, transportation, etc.) whereas with hydroseeding, we are limited to product and labor costs. 'work.

Can you walk on the floor after applying the product?

YES, if you have to water the surface manually or if you have to move the sprinklers. However, be careful not to disturb or eliminate the mat of mulch covering the ground. If you have young children, it is best that they do not play on the freshly seeded ground, again, simply so as not to disturb the product.

Why use hydroseeding?

  • To have a sparkling lawn at low cost, including all the necessary materials and labour.
  • To have a high quality lawn while using a biological process without any harmful effect on the environment.
  • For turfing hard-to-reach places: mounds and hills, places obstructed by trees or shrubs, etc.
  • To obtain a strong and resistant lawn in the long term, in addition to being specially designed to cope with our Quebec climate.
In addition, hydro-seeding is 60% LESS expensive than peat installation. When lawn roots are mature, hydroseeding is 80% higher quality than peat.

How do I maintain my new lawn?

Watering:
Your new lawn will require a lot of water. A new lawn should be watered 2-3 times a day for the first 2 weeks for 10-15 minutes. The lawn should be constantly moist. Watch the temperature and adjust your watering to keep the mulch moist. PLEASE DO NOT FLOOD THE GROUND! After the first cut, you will need to water your lawn once a day evenly.

Mowing:
Don't be in a rush to mow your lawn the first time. Give the roots time to gain strength and take root well. As soon as the new lawn is 3-4 inches tall, it's time to mow it. Make sure the blades of your mower are fine, this will prevent the grass from being torn and the roots from being uprooted. Ripped, uncut grass is more prone to disease. You can also leave the cut lawn on the ground as compost and thus allow good nutrition to your lawn.

Fertilizer :
During the hydro-seeding process we apply a high quality fertilizer with a high level of potassium to help your lawn grow and form stronger roots. Your lawn should be fertilized with a booster fertilizer containing a high concentration of nitrogen after the first mowing, approximately 4 weeks after hydroseeding.

When is the best time to hydroseede

Spring: Mild weather, favorable for a sparkling lawn for the summer.

Summer: Depending on your vacation schedule, summer can be an excellent time to apply hydroseeding. However, you must make sure you have access to water and permission from the city, because watering will have to be more frequent due to the warmer weather and the heat waves.

Fall: Obtaining a flamboyant lawn for the following spring is also possible. It will be less full in the first times, but will be very beautiful the following season.

Winter: When the ground is frozen and before the snow settles on the ground, it is possible to seed dormant. Fertilizer will only be applied next spring.
